This large, robust species usually has big pseudobulbs, fragrant, waxy flowers, a white lip and greenish-white sepals and petals.

Although it is labeled as S. ecornuta, a communication from Dr. Guenther Gerlach of the Munich Botanical Garden indicates that is is really the standard, non-spotted form of Stanhopea inodora. I appreciate Rod Rice bringing this to my attention. Note the structural similarities with the flowers in the photo at left by R. Baca.

Ann writes: "The natural spread is 5 inches. The leaves are 16 inches above the pseudobulbs. They are quite stiff and leathery. There is a rather strong fragrance--deliciously sweet."
